Microsuction at Isabella Fisher Independent Hearing Care

What is microsuction?

Microsuction is a method of removing excess ear wax from the ears. Although wax is an important part of your ears’ function, it can often build up, with the excess causing issues with your hearing, and sometimes exacerbating tinnitus.

How is microsuction performed?

Using magnification loupes to see clearly into your ear canal, the person carrying out your microsuction will insert a small, low-pressure suction device into your ear, using it like a vacuum to remove the excess wax.

We also use a video otoscope to compare the condition of your ears before and after your microsuction treatment.


Is microsuction better than syringing or irrigation?

Ear syringing and irrigation both use water, while there’s no need with microsuction. It means the process isn’t as messy, and comes with a reduced risk of infection. There’s also no need to prepare as you would with the other methods by using ear drops to soften the wax, and it can be performed on people who have perforated eardrums.
